On 17 December, the Government of Japan handed audio-visual equipment for educational exhibition, which is worth US$60,291, to Bangladesh National Zoo under the scheme of Grant Assistance for Cultural Grassroots Projects.
Ambassador of Japan to Bangladesh H.E. Mr. Hiroyasu Izumi and Mr. Kazi Wasi Uddin, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock attended the handover ceremony, which was conducted by Dr. S.M. Nazrul Islam, Curator of the Zoo, in this morning.
At the ceremony, Ambassador Izumi mentioned that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Prime Minister Shinzo Abe underlined that the mutual understanding between the peoples of Japan and Bangladesh should be deepened in various fields, including education and culture on the occasion of their mutual visits in 2014. The Ambassador also expressed his hope to further facilitate amicable friendship between the two peoples through such cooperation in the field of culture and education that can be directly reached out to Bangladeshi people.
In response, Mr. Kazi Wasi Uddin, Joint Secretary expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Government of Japan for providing the grant to Bangladesh National Zoo. He also hoped that these new facilities would contribute visitors and students to deepen their knowledge on animals and environment.
After the handover ceremony, the zoo invited 30 school students from School and organised the workshop on animals in Bangladesh National Zoo, its history and role. The workshop was welcomed by Dr. SM Nazrul Islam, Curator of the zoo and conducted by Dr. Koly Mustafa, Officer in Charge of the zoo’s museum.
